Who is Danu?
Danu is an ancient goddess from Irish Celtic mythology, often understood as a great mother of the land, rivers, and living world. Her name is thought to be connected to flowing water and fertility, and she is associated with the Tuatha Dé Danann, the mythical people of Ireland whose name means “the people of the goddess Danu.”
Though little survives in written stories about her, Danu represents the generative force of nature — the source from which life, creativity, and nourishment arise.
At Ode to Danu, she is honoured as a symbol of reverence for the natural world. The name reflects a commitment to working with nature rather than against it: drawing on plants, seasons, and traditional craft to create beautiful objects that reconnect us with the earth.
Founded by artist Alacoque Dash, Ode to Danu draws on a background in fine arts, education, herbalism, and traditional craft. The practice honours her Irish Celtic ancestry while embracing a deep reverence for mythology, land, and seasonal rhythm.
Through slow processes and natural materials, Alacoque creates work that fosters beauty, ritual, and connection — inviting others to reconnect with the natural world in thoughtful and meaningful ways.
